Thinking of you all during this time. I was saddened to hear of Mildred’s passing. She was a big part of my childhood, with so many fond memories of family trips and week-ends together. I am also honoured to have spent time with Mildred and Sam here in Germany during their stay in our home.
She was always full of positivity, laughter and a big smile that I still remember the last time I saw her last summer.
With Love,
Heather

I first met Mildred as my grade 1 and 2 teacher and then came to know her over the last 25 years as a mentor and a friend at Steinmann Mennonite Church. What an intelligent, generous, encouraging, and grace-filled example she leaves for all of us. My prayers are with you, Sam, and with the rest of her family.

My heart goes out to Sam Sr., Andy, Jennifer and Sam on the loss of Mildred. I remember the great Thanksgiving dinners at Sam and Mildred’s and her warm and loving attitude. Her interest in education and learning was quite evident in conversation. May she rest in peace and may all who loved her dearly be comforted by the good memories of her life of service.

I am so sorry for your loss, Sam and family. Whenever Rick and I visited at Steinnman Church during our travels to Ontario from PA, we were welcomed by Mildred with a warm smile. May memories of special times in the past soften the pain of grief now.

I had Mildred as a teacher from from 1962 through 1967 at SS #8 Rosebank School – a one room schoolhouse between New Dundee and Petersburg, in the last years that this form of education existed. She was extremely fair, thoughtful and empathetic, as well as being an excellent teacher. It was her first teaching job and she would have been around 20 years old – handling Grades 1 through 6 with much aplomb. She was especially sensitive to any behaviour that touched even slightly on any form of bullying or unkind actions or speech (it was simply not tolerated) – a true champion of the underdog long before it became a national conversation. I ran into her from time to time in the years since then – and she was always interested in catching up and finding out what I was up to. The most shocking thing she ever did was to leave at the end of one school year as Miss Gingerich, and return the next as Mrs. Roth – something that all of us had a difficult time adjusting to.
She will be very much missed, but her influence and spirit will be around forever.
Condolences to her family and friends.
