Keller, Larry John Bernhardt
January 28, 1945 – January 8, 2019
It is with a mixture of sadness and thanksgiving for a life well lived that we announce Larry’s death. Larry was a much loved husband, father and grandfather, and a dear friend to many. His interest in all things and all people are fondly remembered by his family.
Larry passed away gently and peacefully in the arms of his loving wife at the age of 73. After a courageous journey, fought with openness, quiet dignity and grace, he left with the pride and contentment of a life well lived. Larry was born in North Easthope Township and was the eldest son of the late Oscar and Elizabeth (Tiemens) Keller. He was an employee of Uniroyal Goodrich for 29 years until 1992. He was then employed by Expressway Motors in New Hamburg for the following 17 years.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 52 years, the former Mary Ann Merklinger, whom he married at Tavistock on June 17, 1966 and who has been his constant companion and support. Treasured father to three cherished daughters; Sherri Keller (Waterdown), Lori and husband Dwane Arnott (New Hamburg), and Tara Keller Ng and husband Abel Ng (Vancouver). Much loved Papa to four precious grandsons; Logan, Jairus, Dayton and Tanner, and one very special granddaughter, Keida, whose ‘heart and soul squeezer hugs’ he always welcomed. Also survived by five brothers; Randy and wife Christine, Dale and wife Brenda, Brian and wife Marian, Terry and wife Jackie, and Steve and wife Kim; and by two sisters; Judie and husband Ken Seltzer, and Janice and husband Rick Ritz; and by numerous nieces and nephews. “In addition to his parents, Larry was predeceased by his father and mother-in-law Walter and Erma (Woelfle) Merklinger, Sherri’s partner Josee L’Esperance and by his grandparents John and Lydia (Zehr) Tiemens and Karl and Margaret (Schmidt) Keller.
Larry was a caring and compassionate father and Papa. He took much pleasure in watching his grandchildren thrive in all their various activities. He was never happier than when in the company of his family and friends. He had a strong and passionate, albeit quiet, faith.
Friends and colleagues are invited to share their memories of Larry with his family at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg, on Friday from 4-9 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will take place on Sat.
