Gray, Thelma Louise

Born: Nov 07, 1928
Died: Nov 19, 2018

GRAY, Thelma Louise (nee Wagner) – 1928-2018
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a very special lady on Monday, November 19, 2018 at her residence, Idlewylde Manor, Hamilton.
Thelma was born on November 7, 1928 in Newton, Ont, the first child of Louise Bernice Pierce and John Conrad Wagner.
She married the love of her life, Douglas L Gray in October, 1948. They were not only partners in marriage, but partners in business. Thelma and Doug owned and operated Gray’s  Egg Grading Station in Millbank.  Following Doug’s death in 1976, Thelma continued to operate the business until March of 1981. Thelma continued to work as a bookkeeper in Elmira until her retirement in May of 1988.
Thelma lived in Millbank from 1953 until 2006 when she moved to Waterloo Heights, Waterloo. In January 2015 she moved to the Westmount Terrace Retirement Home in Hamilton and in September 2018 she moved to Idlewyld Manor in Hamilton.
Thelma was predeceased by her mother, Louise in 1945; her husband, Doug in 1976; her sister, Patricia in 1998 and her father, John in 2000, as well as 4 sisters in law and one brother in law.
She is survived by 3 children – Monty Gray, Toronto, Virginia (Brian) O’Neill, Mount Hope and Heather (James) Clemmer of Kitchener; 7 grandchildren – Alison (Rich) Hughes,
Chris (Kat Hughes) Clemmer, Jenn (Craig) Leslie, Justin (Natalie Tabone) Gray, Sean O’Neill, Vanessa (Andy) Wood and Derek (Kelly Lefaive) Gray. Also, 6 great grandchildren –  Mya & Cali Leslie, Evan Clemmer-Hughes, Imogen Hughes, Jasper Gray and Easton Wood.
There was absolutely nothing more important to Mom than family. She was the glue that held us all together. Friends were very important as well. Mom also enjoyed music, dancing (especially with Doug. They rarely sat through a favourite song), gardening, cooking & baking for her family and for fundraisers, making crafts, playing bingo, doing crossword puzzles, listening to the Blue Jays games on the radio and decorating her home for all special occasions, but most especially Christmas. Thelma was a warm and gracious host whether it was for a festive meal or over a coffee at her kitchen table.
We wish to thank the dedicated and compassionate staff at both Westmount Terrace, where she resided for 3.5 years and Idlewyld Manor.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 7 Spencer Street, Milverton on Friday, November 23, 2018 from 2 – 4 p.m.  The funeral will take place on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at the funeral home at 12:00 noon.  Interment to take place in Greenwood Cemetery, Milverton
Thelma was a very giving person so in lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated  to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or a charity of your choice.
 Thelma will be missed.

I am so sorry for your loss. I didn’t know your mom well but I do know she was a lovely, giving lady. I will always appreciate that she let us use her garage for our vacation Bible School classes in July and put up with many children right by her property. I admired her lovely home and am the proud owner of some of her dishes and some metal egg crates from her auction sale. My husband, Cliff, would have known her better. Since he has been gone for 13 years, I have a new appreciation for your mom being a widow for such a long time and for being the “glue” holding your family together. My own mom passed away in August so I know you will miss her. May God bless you with peace and comfort.
