Gingerich, Samuel
Passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Wednesday April 19, 2017 at Innisfree House, Kitchener. Sam resided in New Hamburg and had farmed on the Gingerich homestead in Wilmot Centre. He was born 58 years ago in Kitchener.
Beloved husband of Mary Lou (Yantzi) Gingerich for almost 37 years.  Loving father of Brandon and Jessie Gingerich, Ben Gingerich and fiancé Courtney Hobbs, all of Kitchener. Sadly missed by his grandchildren Claire, Leah and Samuel. Dear son of Ruby (Wagler) Gingerich of New Hamburg and the late Alvin Gingerich.  Remembered by his sisters Laura Gingerich of Kitchener, Heidi and Gord McHugh of Oakville, Katherine and Rob Sonoda of Kitchener. Son-in-law of Mary Jane Yantzi and the late Clair Yantzi. Brother-in-law of Myron and Kelly Yantzi, Brenda and Phil Bowman, Bonnie and Greg West, Grace Henderson.  Missed by many nieces and nephews.
Sam was an active member of Steinmann Mennonite Church, who enjoyed volunteering in a variety of ways, most recently with the LOGOS program.  Sam took great pride in his gardens, both on the farm and at their new home in New Hamburg, and could never resist an opportunity to help his sons with yard work, construction projects and renovations.  Sam developed a keen interest in woodworking during the past few years and leaves his family with many cherished pieces of custom furniture.  Sam loved to spend time with his grandchildren and especially enjoyed introducing them to animals, farms and nature.  Sam was a natural leader and great motivator, nowhere more notable than as a coach for dozens of hockey and fastball teams in both Baden and New Hamburg.
Family and friends will be received at the Steinmann Mennonite Church, 1316 Snyder’s Road West, Baden on Friday April 21, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and again on Saturday April 22, 2017 from 5-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Sunday April 23, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Steinmann Mennonite Church, Baden with Pastor Myrna Miller Dyck and Pastor Steve Drudge officiating. Interment to follow in Steinmann Mennonite Cemetery.  As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to Innisfree House, Kitchener or the Benevolence Fund at Steinmann Mennonite Church.

Our condoleances to Mary Lou and the rest of the Gingerich family. Although we haven’t been living in the country for most of our adult lives, I fondly remember Sam as Heidi’s big brother and also as our source of good milk from the farm for many years growing up. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Condolence from Bill Mertens sent on April 25, 2017

My sincere sympathy to Sam’s family. I called on Sam for a number of years at Alpine and had a great relationship with him. He is a wonderful person and always great to work with. I consider myself fortunate to have known Sam. My prayers go out to you all!

Condolence from Ken Ogasawara sent on April 24, 2017

Marylou, Brandon, Ben,
I’m so sorry to have heard just yesterday about Sam’s passing. I’m shocked, I had no idea he was even ill. I’m so sorry to have missed the visitation and funeral. I want to take the opportunity to share a Sam story. Sam will always have a special place in my heart as the first adult to curse in front of me – and it was awesome. As you know, Sam coached the Baden softball team for a number of years when I was on the Baden team with Brandon. He was always passionate, always supportive of all the kids from best kid on the team (Brandon) to the weakest (me haha). One of the years we had made the playoffs and we were coming down to an elimination game against a team that was clearly superior. But Sam wasn’t letting us go down without a fight and he gave an impassioned pre-game speech, all of us in a tight circle around him, taking a knee in right field. And he finished this great speech with: “Let’s show them who the real shits in the bush are!!”. And I was like, “YES. Let’s DO THIS!”. I don’t even remember if we won or lost that game but I’ll never forget that line, nor how he made us all feel like winners. God bless him.

Marylou,
My heart breaks when I think about the last six months and the heartache that you and your family had to endure. I know how hard life is when there is so much uncertainty about tomorrow and you are forced to live one day at a time. I am very thankful for the love and strength of God, as he is so willing to carry you through. Due to Burnell being bedridden we are not able to come to the visitation or funeral but please know that we are praying for you and your family everyday. Please accept our condolences

We are so saddened by the loss of this very special man. In the 2 1/2 years as neighbours, we have been so priveleged to know Sam as a friend. We will cherish the memory of his loving, caring heart and giving spirit. Sam demonstrated faith in action in so many ways! We especially appreciated his concern and prayers for us when we experienced a loss in our own family this past summer. Our love and prayers are with you and your family, Mary Lou.
