Passed away peacefully on Friday, June 2, 2017 at Grand River Hospital, K-W Health Centre at the age of 77.  Mervin was born in Palmerston, Ontario and was the son of the late Oscar and Marjorie (McCoombs) Broughton.
Beloved husband of Shirley Broughton nee. Lang whom he married October 20, 1962.  Dear father of Benjamin Broughton and his fiancé Cathy and Leanne Brooker and her husband Cory.  Cherished grandfather to Sara, Ethan, Madison and Averie.  Mervin is survived by his sister Mary Webster and his 3 brothers; Ron, Lyle and Paul Broughton.  Predeceased by 3 brothers; Calvin, Edwin and Glenn.
Mervin was a man of strong faith as a member of Bethel Tabernacle of Preston in Cambridge, Ontario and played rhythm guitar faithfully for 60 years.  He enjoyed helping his son Ben with the New Hamburg Fall Fair, he loved gardening and had a special passion for farming.  He was a member of the Ontario Cattlemen’s Association.  He drove transport for over 40 years where he spent 31 years at Erb Transport.
Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 from 5 – 8 p.m. The funeral service will take place at Bethel Tabernacle of Preston, 1655 Queenston Road, Cambridge on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. where Pastor John Buczynski will officiate.  Interment to follow in Parklawn Cemetery, Cambridge.
As expressions of sympathy donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Bethel Tabernacle of Preston Missions Fund would be greatly appreciated.
