Ballantyne, Robert John

Born: Apr 10, 1928
Died: Sep 09, 2019

Passed away peacefully at Grand River Hospital, KW Health Centre on Monday, September 9, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.  RJ was born in Stratford, Ontario 91 years ago, son of the late William Ballantyne and former Mary Good.
RJ is reunited with his beloved wife Phyllis (Sorensen) Ballantyne who predeceased him on December 2, 2016.  Dear father of Betty Ann Dadd (Wayne Moore) of Windsor, Carolyn McGill (Phil) of Waterloo, Bill Ballantyne (Jo-Anne) of Kincardine, Bruce Ballantyne (Barbara) of Stratford.   Loving grandfather to Lorraine Dadd; Lisa Dadd; Julie (Steven Pimiskern); Andrew (Taylor Moore); Brad McGill (Alissa); Rob McGill (Alison Midgley); Scott Ballantyne (Amy); Karen (Mark Smith); Dan Ballantyne (Corrie); Stephen Ballantyne (Negin Sairafi) and great-grandpa to 15.  RJ is predeceased by his 2 sisters Elizabeth Rae (Norman) and Janette Grasby (Art).
RJ had a fabulous sense of humour & an easy way of speaking to anybody and everybody.  A devoted family man, he taught us the value of hard work and could be found building and fixing long after he retired.
Born onto a dairy farm he started working at an early age before leaving to pursue his own path as a heating and cooling mechanic and then owning a campground.
Over the years he was treasurer of Avonton Presbyterian Church, member of Shakespeare Presbyterian Church, KW Power Squadron and Shakespeare Tractor Club.  He loved boating, woodworking and playing shuffleboard.  His happiest moments included family, laughter and coconut cream pie!
A memorial visitation will take place at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg on Thursday, September 12, 2019 from 7 – 9 p.m. and again on Friday, September 13, 2019 from 2 – 3 p.m.  followed by the service at 3 p.m. in the chapel.  Rev. Rob Congram officiating.  Interment of ashes in Avonbank Cemetery, St. Mary’s at a later date. A heartfelt thank you to the caring staff at Nithview.
As expressions of sympathy, donation to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Nithview Community would be appreciated by the family (Cheques Accepted).  Personal condolence and memorial tribute information available at
